As the Couette flow develops (driven by the correction), u_local increases, making f_eq[incoming] larger in the flow direction. The Bouzidi q>=0.5 branch picks up this growing equilibrium through the (1-1/(2q)) weight on f_pre_in. In simple BB, f_bb[in] = f_pre[outgoing] + corr — the base uses the OUTGOING direction's post-collision population. The outgoing direction carries momentum TOWARD the wall, which has a different (smaller) tangential component than the incoming direction. Bouzidi effectively samples a higher-momentum population for its base, leading to a systematically inflated velocity field. This is NOT a bug in the formula — the Bouzidi interpolation is doing exactly what it's designed to do (interpolating populations). The issue is that the standard Ladd wall velocity correction was derived for simple BB where the base is f_pre[outgoing]. When the base changes to an interpolation that includes f_pre[incoming] (which carries more flow- direction momentum), the SAME correction over-drives the flow. ### Verdict: CONFIRMED (qualitatively) Feedback amplification through f_pre_in is the mechanism, operating through the developing equilibrium velocity field. The simple geometric series model does not predict the amplification quantitatively (signed collision attenuation for tau < 1 gives the wrong sign). The mechanism is: equilibrium-mediated feedback, where f_pre_in carries f_eq(u_local) with growing u_local, and the (1-1/(2q)) weight amplifies this relative to simple BB's f_pre[out]. --- ## Equilibrium approach — FAILED **Attempted**: Replace f_pre_in in q>=0.5 branch with f_eq(rho=1, u_wall). **Result**: 87-275% error depending on formulation variant. **Root cause of failure**: The Ladd correction accounts for BOTH absorption of the outgoing particle and emission of the reflected particle (factor of 2 in the correction `2·w·(e·u)/cs²`). The equilibrium deviation `f_eq(u_wall)[in] - f_eq(0)[in] = w·(e_in·u_wall)/cs²` only accounts for the emission part (factor of 1).
